Retrace Sherman's March to the Sea at the Southern Museum
(Kennesaw, GA) — Sponsored by the Southern Museum in conjunction with the Kennesaw Historical Society, author Robert Jones, will be conducting a lecture, held at the Southern Museum, entitled “Retracing the Route of Sherman's March to the Sea” on Saturday, July 10th at 2PM.
Jones is the president of the Kennesaw Historical Society and author of several books, including Retracing the Steps of a General — Following in the footsteps of the Andrews Raid and Images of America: Kennesaw.
This Saturday, Jones will lead a discussion of the historical background of Sherman's 1864 march across Georgia, which ended in the capture of the port of Savannah. Jones will discuss the cities and towns destroyed along Sherman's path, as well as the monuments that have been erected in tribute to the historical events associated with the march.
The Museum lecture series invites prominent experts in various fields to discuss important historical topics. Programs are held at 2 PM in the Museum's Jolley Education Center. The lectures are free of charge, though visitors wishing to tour the Museum either before or after the event are requested to enter through the front entrance. A Smithsonian Institution affiliate, the Southern Museum features collections of rare Civil War weapons, uniforms and other personal items; an exciting exhibit about The Great Locomotive Chase, including a short movie; and a full-scale replica of a locomotive factory that helped rebuild the South after the war.
