Touring the Southern MuseumSouthern Museum Tours and Programs

Guided tours and programs will be offered every hour on the half hour.

Summer 2010 (Now until September 6th):

  • 11:30, 12:30; 1:30; 2:30 every day

After September 6th

  • 11:30, 12:30; 1:30; 2:30 on Saturdays

2010 Winter/Holiday Break:

  • November 26th & 27th
  • December 18th – January 1, 2011
  • 11:30, 12:30; 1:30; 2:30 every day

Programs are held on a wide range of topics, from weapons firing to Civil War music and photography, and locomotive factory worker stories to guided tours of the Museum's exhibits. Free with Museum admission. Programs are approximately 20 minutes.

Program Offerings:

 

The Southern Museum, in association with the Smithsonian Institution, is a premier metro Atlanta museum, featuring exhibits on Civil War and locomotive history. The Southern Museum is home to the General locomotive, stolen during the Civil War's Great Locomotive Chase; a reproduction of the locomotive assembly line from the Glover Machine Works; weapons, uniforms and every day items of Civil War soldiers; and the Jolley Education Center that features train history, hands-on activities for children and Georgia's French Gratitude Train.
